The company was founded in Dartmouth Nova Scotia, in 1867 (the
same year as Canada's birth) by John and Susannah Oland, using a
recipe she brought from England.
135 years, six generations and still in the family, the company
maintains its great brewing tradition of excellence and innovation
under the keen eye of current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,
Derek Oland.
Derek's sons, Andrew and Patrick also work at Moosehead,
representing the same values of the legendary Oland brewers.
The majestic moose symbolizes the strength and stature of the
Canadian Wilderness, and remains a powerful and enduring symbol of
the pride and spirited independence of Canada.
The name "Moosehead" was first used in 1928 as the brand name
for a new product, however it reflected the company's ideals so
well, the name was later given to the entire brewery. For many
years, the renowned Moose emblem has represented the Oland family
traditions of great brewing and the company's worldwide commitment
to quality and excellence.
Moosehead's fine brewing process provides beer lovers with
quality and excellence they expect from extraordinary beer.
Superior craftsmanship and quality control ensure that your
Moosehead experience measures up to our product standards, no
matter where in the world you drink our beer. The superior taste of
Moosehead beer comes from closely guarded recipes passed down from
